The Cabela's National Team Championship is a result of partnerships formed with walleye tournaments, circuits and clubs across the nation. Anglers that have secured invitations through these organizations have an opportunity to compete for added cash and prizes in a true national championship tournament.
The Cabela's National Team Championship continues Cabela's commitment to the sport of tournament walleye fishing by creating a national championship that will allow grass-roots anglers to shine under the spotlight of national media attention.
Mid-South Walleyes is one of approximately 50 qualifying circuits seeking invitational slots to the 250 team Cabela's NTC. Points are awarded to participant teams at each tournament they participate in during the season. We are awarded invitational slots based on the average number of teams that participate in our tournaments during the season. Smaller circuits receive a couple invitations and larger circuits receive more. The Cabela's NTC is traditionally held in late May or early June following the season that points are awarded.
Cabela's National Team Championship Qualification
The scoring method to be used for the 2008 season:
For the 2008 MSW tournament year, teams will be awarded up to 50 points per tournament toward NTC qualification. The first place team will receive 50 points. The second place team will receive 49 points. The third place team will receive 48 points and so forth down the standings. Each team that weighs in fish will receive a minimum of 10 points. Each team that participates but doesn't weigh fish will receive 5 points.
Five of the six tournament scores will be accumulated for the final standings. Each team will score points from their top five tournament scores.
In case of a tie in the final standings, the higher placement will go to the team with the highest accumulated weight for the season.
Each team member MUST be a member of MSW to earn points toward NTC qualification. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you fish with a non-member, no points will be awarded toward NTC qualification.
One substitution per team member is allowed per season. Note: the substitute must be a MSW member to earn points toward NTC qualification.
If a team cannot attend the NTC, MSW may substitute the next team lower in the point standings.
If one member of the team is unable to make the NTC, a substitute, which is a MSW member, may be taken. MSW and Cabela’s must approve the substitute.
Although we are not guaranteed any set number of NTC invitations, this is the order that they will be allocated. The first NTC invitation will go to the team with the highest overall score. The second NTC invitation will go to the North or South Division winner with the highest accumulated points. The third NTC invitation will go to the other Division winner. The fourth invitation if awarded and any subsequent invitations will go to the highest scoring teams fishing five of the six tournaments.
Teams competing for the Overall Team of the Year must fish five of the six tournaments to be eligible for the NTC invitation. Teams competing for the North or South Division title must fish all 3 tournaments in that division to be eligible for the NTC invitations.
